Employment tribunals are at the top of a list of concerns for small business owners and managers. According to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), of the 4.3 million small businesses in the UK, 56 percent of them had to settle employment disputes out of court last year.

The recent high-profile case of the British Airways employee discriminated against for wearing a cross at work attracted headlines around the world and brought the subject to the top of the employees at work agenda.

Unfair dismissal, sexual and religious discrimination are all legitimate reasons to sue and employers and small business owners need to address ways to protect themselves from such a claim. Equality think tank c2e suggest that there was a 41 percent increase in claims filed with employment tribunals in 2006.
